Community Service
I finished my community service
hours while volunteering at Penn Highland DuBois over the summer. I volunteered
every Monday morning for a couple of hours in one of the offices
in Hahne's Cancer Center. I mainly did clerical and secretary work, such
as ordering and filing patient documents and charts, or calling patients to
remind them of appointments. I originally decided to start volunteering there
when a friend of my mother's told me that if I was interested in working in a
hospital that our hospital allows students to volunteer. At the time I was a
cyber student in my eleventh grade year so it was easy for me to begin over
there. I stayed with them for almost a year volunteering Monday mornings until
I had to leave when I started school here. I hope to return this summer when I
have spare time.
My time there is what made me initially question if I wanted to be a nurse due to the fact that I was able to see how some of the labs worked and grew interested in laboratory work. |
